Welcome to the Telling on the Teacher podcast. This story is called Raining Cats and Dogs, and it's a mini story about Jamie. There's a teacher at our school who always seems to break the rules, telling uh the teacher would you? Well, school had just finished for the day, and Mr McMarlow had told all the kids that they could go and collect their bags and see you tomorrow. Jamie was walking home that day. Actually, she was walking home and catching the bus home. And so she went and got her bag, and it was pouring with rain outside. She got her jacket and put it on and found her umbrella. All the other mums and dads who had come to collect their kids were all wearing jackets and umbrellas. It wasn't really cold, but it was really windy, and it was hard to hold the umbrella in the right place. Jamie walked out the school gates and started walking down the road towards the bus stop. It was so windy that it was almost blowing her umbrella inside out. It had been a busy day and Jamie was feeling hungry, and she was really looking forward to getting home. I've got to catch that bus, thought Jamie. Otherwise Caleb, my older brother, is gonna get home before me, and then he'll eat up all the good snacks before I get there. And I really want to get one of those chocolate chip cookies with the gooey chocolate bits. As she was walking along, she was starting to feel more and more hungry and wondered if she had anything left in her lunch box, so she stopped and put the umbrella down underneath a tree in and got her lunch box out and had to hold the umbrella still and put her bag underneath the umbrella, and looked in her lunchbox. Only two little cherry o sausages with red skin on them that her mum had given her from her little sister's birthday party on the weekend. Uh, cherry o sausages, thought Jamie. Don't really like these, but I'm so hungry. She grabbed one out of her lunchbox and then clicked it back, and put her lunchbox back in the bag and zipped it up. Slung it over her shoulder, grabbed the umbrella and started walking. She tried to pull the red skin off the sausage while holding onto her umbrella. I really don't like the red skin, she thought to herself. She was almost at the bus stop and she saw that there was a rubbish bin on the side of the road. I'll just chuck this skin by the on this rubbish bin, thought Jamie. So she finished peeling it off, popped the sausage into her mouth, and chucked the skin into the rubbish bin, but it hit the side and fell off onto the ground. Before she could even pick it up, something pounced on it. It was a ginger cat with white stripes. said the cat. Hey, you have my sausage skin. Oh, I suppose I didn't want it, and looks like you could use some food, said Jamie. The cat's hair was all wet and the cat was quite skinny. What are you doing out here in the rain? Cats don't normally like rain, said Jamie. I've got to catch that bus. So she picked up her umbrella again and started walking off towards the bus stop. She was just past um she was just going past Thomas's house, where Harry Scary lived. Oh, Harry Scary's not barking today, said Jamie, as she walked past the beware of dog sign. Normally Harry Scary would always come out and go woof woof woof woof woof woof woof when she walked past. But he must be around the back of the section or inside because there was no barking today. Finally Jamie got to the bus stop and sheltered under the little roof at the bus stop. Oh I hope the bus comes soon, thought Jamie. No She heard a sound down from her feet. Hey, it's that cat. Hey, scat cat. You can't come on the bus with me. Choo and you're making me choo sneeze. Jamie was allergic to cats, and she realized that she would have to try and get this cat away. The cat kept meowing at her. Meow Oh you want some more food, don't you? I'm not giving you any more food. Meow I can't come on the bus with me either. What if the bus driver doesn't let me on the bus because there's a cat trying to get on the bus? Or what if you get on the bus and make me sneeze the whole way home? Scat cat, scat. And Jamie walked away from the bus stop and tried to walk away towards the little side road. The cat followed her. Jamie walked down the side road, running up behind a tree and tried to hide behind the tree, but the cat just followed her. Oh I've got can't miss my bus, said Jamie. She ran back towards the bus stop, looking down the road to see if the bus was coming yet. It wasn't. Oh scat cat. It was getting really wet and windy. And Jamie really wanted to shelter under the bus shelter, but the cat kept coming in, rubbing against her leg. Meow, said Jamie again. Then she remembered that cats aren't supposed to like water, so she got out her drink bottle to see if she could scare the cat away. But her drink bottle was empty. Oh yeah, I finished it all at school when we were doing pee in the hall, said Jamie. She stashed her drink bottle back into her bag. How am I gonna get this cat away? The bus will be here any moment. Then she remembered Harry Scary. I wonder if Harry Scary would help me, she thought. She dug in her bag for a lunch box and that last cherry o sausage, clipped her lunch box shut, zipped up her bag, grabbed her umbrella, and started running off towards Thomas's house. Harry Scary, Harry Scary, are you there? Harry Scary? Of course the cat followed her, especially now the cat could see the sausage in Jamie's hand. Here is scary sausage for you, catch. And she threw it over Thomas's fence, and she heard woof woof woof woof woof woof woof woof woof Harry Scary came bounding over and gobbled up the sausage. Thank you, he seemed to be saying. As soon as the ginger cat saw Harry Scary and heard the barking, she shot up the tree just outside Thomas's house. Oh phew. Hopefully the cat stays up there. Oh the bus is coming. Jamie ran back towards the bus stop, and the bus stopped. And Jamie jumped on and found a seat next to the window. As the bus rumbled off down the road, she could see the cat still holding on to a branch in the tree, and she waved goodbye to Harry Scary. Oh thanks, Harry Scary, for helping me, she said, as she rode all the bus all the way home. Well, she finally got home and found a towel to dry herself off. It was pretty wet that day, and looked in the cupboard, and the last chocolate chip biscuit with the gooey chocolate drops was still there, just for her. And that made a rainy day quite a lot better. I hope you enjoyed that story about Jamie. And next time we'll be having another story about room three at Triple Oak School, and we'll find out what happens when there is a mysterious sound in the classroom and what the kids have to do to find out what it is. Join us then. Bye.
